Soft, cool curves are naturally pleasing, and most of Jim's works accentuate those lines and pleasing patterns in the natural wood grain... but there's typically a counterpoint added as well. Edgy barbed wire or cold concrete, natural voids found in the wood, bark inclusions or geometric empty spaces add an important part of the overall plan of each piece. Wood dyes are often used to subtly enhance the textured grain, or to dramatically overshadow the original appearance of the wood. Balance is often shifted slightly to create a unique feel. The silky smooth texture of the wood says "touch me" the barbed wire asks "do you dare?"
