As an avid fan of the outdoors, working with wood seemed a natural fit for me. I have found that I enjoy working with “live edge” pieces, incorporating the shape of the log along with the bark, into my sculptures. I often start a piece without an end figure in mind, allowing the log to dictate the final form as I work. Turning green wood that is still holding a lot of moisture offers a different challenge because the piece will change shape as it is drying. I’ve found it’s important to finish a complete turning of green wood quickly to avoid additional lathe work as it dries.
